Octonauts Once Again :)

We made some more  bits and pieces for our Octonaut Play.

Some “sunken treasure” and Vegimals.  The Vegimals are half veggie and half tuna creatures who take care of the Octonauts’ cooking. We also made a couple of necklaces for presents.

We have an Under The Sea pop up book which I bought ages ago and we discovered that it was perfect for our Octonaut Play, Don’t you agree!

Springy Pom Pom Pencil Toppers

Here are some pom pom pencil toppers. It is one of the Mister Maker minute makes. And it really takes only a minute to make it. You just glue the big pom pom on top of the pipe cleaner and then add some eyes, a little nose, and for the hair whatever you like.. Then spin it around a pen or a pencil. They look so cute and spring so nicely.  They make a lovely Valentine as well!

Need on väge vahvad pliiatsi kaunistused. See karvane tutipea kõigub lahedalt, kui pliiatsiga kirjutada. Hea lihtne kingitus heale sõbrale, vanavanematele või õpetajale! Liimi tutt karvase traadi otsa, lisa suu, silmad ja juuksed ning keeruta arvane traat ümber pliiatsi.

Door Handle Decoration

Here`s something for the Nurture Store.

Whilst I was busy making some cards Lil Mermaid took out some pipe cleaners, beads and grabbed a little piece of my leftover card . She then punched some holes into the card and arranged this beautiful decoration. I love it when the child makes everything by herself.. starting with her very own idea!

And a bit later she made a bracelet as well.

Perfect craft for Nuture Store`s “Kids Art Explorers” project- make something using pipe cleaners.

Valentine Flowers and Wormies

I needed a quick present last week, so I made some flowers and wormies just like last year. For the flowers I used three layers, but thinner paper this time and decorated them with felt tip pen and glitter. For the wormies we used a pipe cleaner instead of a pencil. The little heart on their cheek is to hide a staple… But it`s cute, isn`t it :)

A Bunk Bed for Dollies

We gave our dollies a bunk bed that we made out of two little cardboard boxes. And they also got some nice pillows and blankets made out of an outgrown pair of pyjamas. Lil Mermaid made one of the pillows by herself and she did enjoy sewing it.

And look at this pretty dolly! We got it from our dear friend in Estonia. She makes very pretty dollies. I made a couple as well.. maybe one day I will dare to show them :)

Octonaut Land

Welcome to  Octonaut Land.

It was so much fun to put together the ocean using fabric, blue egg carton and bubble wrap. The coral reef is made out of kitchen tube and loo rolls.. painted and decorated with pom poms and buttons. We attached some pipe cleaner coral and peg fish there as well.

As there are hundreds of different fish in the ocean I made a few to play with. I´m planning to hang them on the coral reef to make it feel that they are really swimming. The ribbon fish idea is from here and the paper fish one from here. Have a look- they both are reaally neat!

These are cheeky giant octopuses who borrowed hats from our snowmen who melted sitting in front of  the radiator…

And look at these cute sea creatures. Lil Mermaid got a wonderful sealife set for Christmas and we can make two lots of creatures out of it. I am covering them in Mod Podge to give the shiny look and make them last longer.

Our under the sea picture came to good use as well, for a background!

And in the sparkling pirate treasure chest we keep all our important Octogoodies.

Well, come over and play!

Peg Recipe Holders

We made some Peg Valentines today. I used two different patterned cards but Lil Mermaid preferred the same pattern all the time. These are supposed to be elephants.. but.. :D

They are actually quite handy. I made an elephant one (which actually looked like an elephant) last year and have been using it almost every day. As my fridge is just next to the kitchen top where I prepare the food.. the elephant can hold recipes for me :)

Dolls’ School

First of all our dolls (Lucy and Annie) had an art lesson…

Then the bell rang (or to be exact, the snake charmer came…)

The girls went outside to play football…

Whilst the art and geography teachers had tea in the staffroom…

Followed by a geography lesson in which the children learnt about capitals…

…Before getting on the bus (or is it really a magic carpet? )…

To the farm…

And then heading to their grandparents’ house for a sleepover.

These little plays are lovely as they develop all the time ( from a school to the novel school bell and then the bus…). It’s good for learning Estonian as well – in our plays I only speak Estonian to Lil Mermaid. She speaks in English but every time she uses more and more Estonian words. She actually uses more Estonian when playing like this than she does in everyday life.  She just gets carried away and doesn’t think about what language she is using. In everyday life she prefers English, even when I ask her to use Estonian but when she is playing she speaks in Estonian more easily. She repeats words and sentences after me, and I also like her love for animals, as in every play we do, the dogs and cats always have a part – feeding them, walking them etc. I suggested that we put the dogs in the conservatory to sleep, but Lil Mermaid refused. She put their basket by the grandparents’ bed.

Another reason for playing schools – we learn how Lil Mermaid’s school life works.  All the things she would never dream of telling us normally just come out when she is playing.

Valentine’s Day Cards

We made some beautiful cards today. Lil Mermaid drew some cute  pictures. I coloured them in and cut them out, attaching them onto card using craftfoam to give it a 3D feel. For other cards I made some prints of teddy bears, using rubber stamps, and then coloured them in with promarkers.

And just look at these pretty roses!!! I saw them in Jude’s blog and couldn’t resist putting them everywhere :)
