Welsh Love Spoons- Llwyau Caru o Gymru

We are going to celebrate St. David`s Day soon and it is about to time to think of Popeth Cymraeg (Everything Welsh).  Wales has so many lovely traditions, legends and stories and one of the cutest is the Love Spoon Tradition.  The story goes back for centuries when rural peasants  used wooden spoons to eat and prepare food. They had to carve lots of simple spoons for this  and the most beautiful spoons were kept to give as gifts.  Today  Lovespoons are given for many special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, births, engagements, christenings, house warming or just a nice souvenir from Wales.

We made some Love Spoons last year too.. and here are the ones we made this year.  All we needed was some egg cartons and some cardboard from cereal box as well as some different colour cards. We drew some shapes onto the coloured card, cut them out and glued them onto the spoons. So simple and yet they look so cute.
