Mermaids` Makings

Ahoy Mateys!

We had a lovely weekend with our favourite Uncle.

As he is always so much fun to be with we thought we would include him in our pirate play.

So we started with making some very important pirate accessories. I made a treasure chest out of a washing powder box (inspiration from Mister Maker) and our Lil Mermaid made some treasure using different size bottle lids. She wrapped the lids in kitchen foil and then decorated with sparkles and sequins.

She absolutely loved this messy part of our pirate play preparations.

We also have a pirate ship (made out of cardboard boxes from the cycle shop down the road), a flag, a ship’s bell (a plant pot and a cat toy), a telescope, and an anchor.. We actually made lots of things while we started playing. Like an anchor, and some fish with a fishing rod.

And then we have a banner (Lil Mermaid insisted that the wording should look as on this picture), some plates for a ship’s cook to use and some sponges  for the swabs to clean the ship).

So here starts our play !

We learnt lots of new words about pirates and ships from daddy and uncle, so we have had a truly nautical weekend! Our uncle said that it’s the first weekend he’s spent in a pirate boat, although it was a very enjoyable one.

The cycle boxes were actually the best choice because it was easy to make a boat shape with them. We were really hunting big tv boxes but could`t find any. So walking home empty handed we passed the cycle shop and .. voilaaaa :)
