We went to visit our dear Polish friend who had moved into her new flat. As it is a tradition in Estonia to bring salt and bread we decided to make a bread hedgehog. We bought a loaf of nice organic bread and stuck matches to make the spines. Our friend said that in Poland they bring salt and bread to newly married couple. It is interesting how traditions can be similar yet so different at the same time.
When I was a child I heard that in some parts of Russia people give a present of cockroaches in a matchbox when you move house. How lovely is that :D
Thank you ladies :)
I just saw this at creativejewishmom and had to come over here to say that it is just adorable!
really unique idea…hmmmmm

Thank you! I like your blog too. And yes, we have a lovely Polish friend called Katarzyna :)

Aitäh! Päris armas tuli välja :)
We go that in Finland too, but I have never seen one decorated like that! And cockroaches, no thanks…
What about Sweden?
Well, you can make a hedgehog next time you visit somebody who has moved the house:) Makes a difference from just a bread and salt. I know some people cut a hole into hedgehog`s back and pour the salt in it and then cover the hole with bread crust.
I think you have flyttgröt, moving porridge, in Sweden.
